About Us
The Ohio Hunting Retriever Club (OHRC) is affiliated with the Hunting Retriever
Club (HRC) and the United Kennel Club (UKC). The UKC, located in Kalamazoo,
Michigan,
is the parent club of the HRC, a national organization, that was "Conceived by
Hunters for Hunters".
The Ohio HRC was formed in June of 2001 by four area retriever enthusiasts for
the purpose of...
- Promoting and encouraging the training and use of hunting retrievers
as conservation tools for the sound management of our natural resources.
- Promoting and encouraging responsible breeding and the hereditary soundness of purebred hunting retrievers.
- Conducting HRC licensed Hunt Tests to test the natural abilities of
hunting retrievers through simulated hunting situations.
- Promoting and encouraging family participation in retriever training
and hunting.
Membership is open to any
breeder, owner or enthusiast of Hunting Retrievers regardless of sex, race, creed
or color. Club members are not required to be a member of the HRC nor do
their dogs have to be purebred nor registered with the UKC or any other registry.
The Ohio HRC is open to a variety of hunting breeds. Among those are...
- Retrievers: Labrador, Golden, Flat Coated, Curly Coated and Chesapeake Bay
- Pointers: English, German Longhaired, Shorthaired and Wirehaired
- Setters: English, Gordon and Irish
- Spaniels: Cocker, English Springer and Brittany
- Terriers: Airedale
- Also: Weimaraners, Vizlas and Standard Poodles
Training is a key part of our club. Come out and enjoy a day of
training. As always...non-members are welcome !!!
Hunt Tests are
non-competitive (your dog is judged against a standard not other dogs) events are licensed by the United Kennel Club and hosted by and
approved by our U.K.C./HRC national club. The two main types of hunt tests are Regular and
Upland. Please check our Events page for an listing of Licensed Hunt Tests in our area.

dog is one of the best conservation tools a hunter can have, if you live in
northwest Ohio, southern Michigan or northeast Indiana, then the Ohio Hunting
Retriever Club is the club for you !!
